First-year Fall Retreat

The First-year Fall Retreat (FFR) is a required event hosted for newly admitted UT PGE undergraduate students. All incoming fall 2019 students, including freshmen and transfer students, are invited to take part in this exciting event, which introduces students to the Longhorn spirit and pride. The event is a great opportunity to make connections with your classmates, UT PGE faculty and staff, industry representatives, and, of course, have fun before the start of fall classes!

The retreat will be held off-campus on August 25-26, 2019 (Sunday and Monday) at The Retreat at Balcones Springs, approximately 45 miles northwest of Austin. UT PGE will take care of round-trip transportation for all students between Austin and Marble Falls.

CHECKING-IN TO UT AUSTIN DORMS/HOUSING:

We highly encourage new students to check-in to their new housing on Friday, August 23 and no later than Saturday, August 24.

ACTION ITEMS:

  1. Please register for the retreat by Sunday, August 11, 2019 by 11 p.m. (Space is limited and there is the possiblity we will get full.)
  2. University policy states that events sponsored off-campus will require travel release and medical forms. The following documents should be submitted to CPE 2.502 by Friday, August 16 by 5 p.m.

*These forms cannot be faxed or emailed. If you cannot drop them off, the original forms need to be sent by mail.

Schedule

  • Sunday, August 25 arrive before 11:30am – Meet at CPE 2.502. The bus will depart at 12pm!
  • Monday, August 26 at 5pm – Arrive back to CPE
  • Tuesday, August 27 at 6pm – Gone to Engineering event

 Transportation

  • All students will be taken to the retreat in a chartered bus
  • Students will not be allowed to drive themselves or carpool to the retreat

Activities

  • Team-building group challenge
  • Lake time, basketball, tennis, billiards and more
  • Neon glow themed evening social

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothing for two days
  • Pillow, sleeping bag or twin-sized bedding (bed linens are not provided)
  • Attire for neon glow party
  • Toiletries (bath towels will be provided)
  • Sunscreen
  • Tennis shoes & flip flops
  • Flashlight
  • Alarm clock (alarm on phone will work)
  • Swimsuit
  • Beach towel

Students will be assigned to sleep in a cabin with 4 to 7 other classmates. The rooms are air-conditioned and have their own bathroom. Towels will be provided in the room. All meals and snacks are included – please do not bring any food. If anyone needs any special accommodations, the department will do its best to fulfill your request.
