Current Students :: Ethics Policy

The faculty of the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering believes that all students should be held to the highest ethical standards possible. High ethical standards will improve the educational environment of all students and ensure that all graduates have achieved satisfactory mastery of the subjects to which they have been exposed.

High ethical standards require students to make a commitment to learning. Such a commitment means students will behave honorably, possibly even at their own personal cost. By making a commitment now, you will guarantee yourself a good education and a successful and enriching future.

In that spirit, all work submitted in any format (electronic or otherwise) in fulfillment of course requirements must be your own. Some courses are designed to teach teamwork skills. In such cases, the instructor will specify when teamwork is allowed.

Any ethical infractions, no matter how minor, will be forwarded to the Dean of Students for review and a significant penalty assessed. More information about ethics can be found at the web site for the Dean of Students (http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/sjs/academicintegrity.html).
