Current Students :: Access to SPE Publications : OnePetro

Society of Petroleum Engineers publications are now available online through OnePetro as are all technical papers that are part of the OnePetro library (API, ARMA, ASSE, NACE, OTC, SPE, SPWLA, SPEE and the World Petroleum Council). The Petroleum Society of CIM papers are also included as part of SPE.

There are two ways to access OnePetro. The simplest way is to use an on campus computer. If you use an on campus computer you will be validated by your IP address. With such validation, you do not need to logon. Just go to www.onepetro.org and you will be recognized as a user who is entitled to download papers. When you perform your search, your search results will include links to pdf versions of the papers. Using these links you will download papers without going through the customary checkout procedure (you need never use a cart again). Using this method, you can only download papers while you are on campus. If you have any problem with this process, email maryp@mail.utexas.edu

When using the second method for accessing papers SPE papers can be downloaded from any computer, using your University of Texas email address and EID to validate your access. Please note this method is for students, faculty and staff of the University of Texas. In order to use the second method you need to follow the steps below.

1. Go to www.onepetro.org
2. Click on the Login in the upper right corner of the webpage
3. Select “New user registration”
4. Enter the University of Texas email address you wish to use as your login
5. Fill out the required fields on the profile page (zip is required for US addresses)
6. If you are an SPE member you can enter your SPE.org login/password on the Membership page.

1. Enter your university/company email address.
2. Go to your university/company email inbox, there will be a confirmation email. Click the link in the email.
3. The link will take you back to a webpage on OnePetro that validates your email address (login required).
4. You will get another confirmation email stating you have successfully registered your email and can now begin using the university/company subscription.
5. Periodically you will be asked to confirm your entitlement by reregistering. Follow the directions and you will regain access to OnePetro

1. Login (with your OnePetro Login). Important first step!
2. You should now see a link to the PDF for SPE papers from the search results.
If you put papers into your cart before logging in:
3. After you login you should see a $0.00 cost for the papers.
4. Click “continue”
5. Enter your first name, last name and email address on the address page.
6. Select the copyright agreement statement
7. You will see the receipt page with a link to the download page.
