Petroleum Engineering

1. What excites you about the oil and gas industry?

The oil and gas industry is an ever-evolving field that presents you with a multitude of opportunities. You get to meet people from all over the world, work with premier technology, never be stuck doing the same job for the rest of your life, and ultimately help supply the world with energy.

2. What student organizations are you involved in?

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and The American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) are two of my favorite clubs that I am involved in. They both allow me to network with industry professionals and learn what companies are currently doing with their technology and assets. I also get to meet upperclassmen and become more involved within PGE. Additionally, SPE and AADE are nationally and globally recognized, and a club that you can participate in during your professional life.

3. What has been your most memorable UT PGE experience?

It is hard to think of what my most memorable UT PGE experience is, but I love the fact that when I sit in the CPE lounge I am able to ask anyone for help on an assignment and they are willing to help. I always see someone from my classes, and even meet new people who become my friends later down the road. UT PGE honestly feels like a family because of the relationships that you develop with your peers throughout your time here.

4. What do you like most about the UT campus?

I love the diversity of the campus. Also, I almost always get my 10,000 steps in daily!

5. What advice would you give to future students?

Do not listen to what people say about the future of oil and gas/petroleum engineering because the industry is cyclical, and we will all be fine in the end! If you struggle a little bit, it is totally normal because everyone does whether they show it or not. Getting a degree from The University of Texas at Austin in petroleum engineering will be so rewarding!
