UT PGE undergraduate and graduate students competed in the annual SPE Local Student Paper Contest on February 6. The contest requires participants to execute a 20-minute presentation on their research topic or an academic/internship project and showcase it to a panel of industry judges. Three winners were chosen from each division, with the top two contestants of each division moving forward to compete in the 2015 SPE Regional Paper Contest.

Jacob Jordan, the B.S. division’s first place winner, took home the top spot with a presentation on subsea engineering. “Presenting for SPE was an amazing opportunity and I am looking forward to representing UT PGE at regionals with distinction,” said Jordan.

Due to a rule change this year that allows each region in the U.S. to have a paper contest, UT PGE will be competing in the Southwestern North America Region. This Regional Paper Contest will be held at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico, March 13-14. Those who place first at the regional contest will be invited to present at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) to be held in Houston, September 28-30.
