Professor Carlos Torres-Verdin and Research Professor Chun Huh have been named Distinguished Members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

The 2015 international award recipients were approved by the SPE Board of Directors at their recent meeting in Mexico City, Mexico. Candidates are nominated by 16 international award committees because of their outstanding and significant technical, professional, and service contributions to SPE and the petroleum industry.

Currently the Zarrow Centennial Professor in Petroleum Engineering and the Frank W. Jessen Professor in Petroleum Engineering for the UT PGE Department, Torres-Verdin has developed and contributed valuable research and teaching to UT Austin for more than 15 years. He is also the Program Director of the world-renowned Formation Evaluation Joint Industry Research Consortium. Earlier this year, Torres-Verdin received Honorable Mention for the Best Paper Category from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).

Huh joined the UT Austin faculty in 2004 bringing almost 30 years of industry experience. He is one of the world’s leading experts on surfactant- and polymer-based enhanced oil recovery methods. He is also a trailblazer in nanoparticle engineering for subsurface processes.

Both professors will be recognized in Houston at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition Sept. 28 – 30.
