Chairman Tad Patzek was recently selected to be part of a newly formed Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee (OESC). The Committee, named by
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, will act as a permanent advisory body providing critical guidance on improving offshore drilling safety, well containment, and spill response offshore.
The fifteen member group includes three academics, four oil and gas industry representatives, a member of an environmental group, and six government employees with a wide range
of experience and expertise. Described as "heavy hitters" by Nick Snow in his March 15 2011 blog post in the Oil & Gas Journal, the group will fill a needed role
in Washington.
According to Patzek, "We will be advising the department of the Interior about how to safely drill in an offshore environment, how to contain spills, should they ever happen, and even better, how to prevent spills from happening."
The appointment is for two years, and will require Patzek to travel to Washington monthly, for meetings and workshops. Congratulations Tad for this recognition, and thanks for your efforts to make Gulf drilling safer and more effective.
