Coast Regional Student Paper/Presentation Contest. The Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering competition was
held on November 14th. The winning presenter at the PhD level is Juliana Leung with, “Statistical Scale-Up of Reservoir Attributes and
Flow Performance” In second place is Arash Dahi Taleghani, with his paper “Effects of Fissures on Hydraulic Fracturing in
Tight Reservoirs.” The third place prize goes to Siyavash Motealleh who presented a paper entitled “Mechanisms of Meniscus
Motion in Fractionally Wetted Porous Media.”

Sonic LWD Tool Semblance Data.” Khyati Rai is in second place for her paper “Screening Model for Surfactant-Polymer Flooding
Using Dimensionless Groups.” In third place is Prince Azom who presented his work “Mechanistic Modeling of Emulsion Formation
During Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) Process.”
In Undergraduate competition Oscar Gonzalez Llama ranks first with his entry, “Surfactant / CO2 Phase Behavior.” In second

the nine winners.
Twenty-two students competed this year in this years' competition. The contest was judged by ten engineers from
Halliburton, Schlumberger, Marathon, and Hilcorp. Prize money was awarded at all three levels of competition; each first
place winner won $500, each second place winner won $300 and each third place winner won $200. Winners of the top two prizes in these contests will go on to compete at the regional level of
competition. In the event that first or second place winners are unable to attend the next level of competition, the third place winner will act as alternate,
and will go on to compete again. We wish our students good luck in the next round of the competition!
