Undergraduate Summer Research Internship in Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering
Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Undergraduate Summer Research Internship in Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering. Each participant will have the
opportunity to choose a project and work with a faculty member. At the conclusion of the program, students are expected to present their research
in an open forum.
The program is designed to give undergraduates a realistic idea of how graduate-level research works in the department.
In addition to experiencing the excitement of academic research, interns learn about applying to graduate school, funding a
graduate program, and succeeding as a graduate student. Petroleum engineers earn the highest average salary of all engineers and work to provide the energy that makes the world run. Research projects in previous summers have
covered enhanced hydrocarbon recovery, CO2 sequestration, methane hydrates, subsurface characterization, heavy oil recovery, numerical reservoir simulation,
reservoir engineering, production, drilling, and environmental remediation.
The program runs from June 1, 2011 through August 9, 2011 and offers a $5000 stipend. Participants must have a 3.0+ GPA,
and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Applicants may be students of any engineering discipline, geosciences, math, or natural sciences.
The program is intended for students who have a strong desire to pursue a PhD.
