News :: New PGE Well Head Display

On Saturday, March 28, 2009 PGE took delivery of four well heads for the entry display outside the PGE building. The well heads show the progression in well head design from the standard design through two generations of well heads that became shorter and faster to install and use, to an example of a sub-sea high pressure wellhead for use at the sea floor level. The well heads have all been carefully cut away to expose the casing hangers and seals that are inside the heads.

The three dry well heads were donated by The Wood Group and the sub-sea (wet) well head was donated by Dril-Quip. Not counting the expense of preparing the cut away views, the well heads have a value in excess of $200,000.

This project is the brain child of Dr. Larry Lake and PGE alumnus Dick Brannon. Mr. Brannon made the initial contacts with The Wood Group and provided funding to prepare the pedestal and set the well heads. Dr. Paul Bommer was responsible for well head selection and coordination with The Wood Group and Dril-Quip.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony is planed for Friday April 17, 2009.

This is a wonderful display that shows some of the impressive hardware used in the oil and gas business and will be an invaluable teaching tool.
