Hani Mohamed Reda Elshahawi's report A Theoretical Study of Temperature Variations in Wellbores: Implications for Temperature Logging

by
Hani Mohamed Reda Elshahawi, MSE

University of Texas at Austin, 1997
Supervisor: Dr. A.D. Hill
Dr. Augusto Podio

Despite the reliability and versatility of the temperature log, it remains one of the most under-used of all production logs. to fully utilize its potential, a better understanding of the factors affecting it is required. This report attempts to provide such a an understanding, first by reviewing and summarizing the various interpretation schemes available, and then by presenting a mathematical model for the study of temperature variations in the regions surrounding a perforation, with particular emphasis given to the phenomenon of Joule-Thomson heating/cooling.
