William Gregory Russell's report A Systematic Method for Developing Recommendations to Improve Drilling Performance: A Case Study of a Twelve Well Infill Drilling Program in Lago Seco Field, West Texas

by
William Gregory Russell, MSE

University of Texas at Austin, 1999
Supervisor: K.E. Gray

The operator of the Lago Seco field conducted a twelve well infill drilling program from late 1996 to mid 1997. The drilling program incurred a 13.5% non-productive time. Prior to drilling additional wells, the operator desires to devise a plan which will reduce per-well drilling costs and improve project economics. This report provides a detailed analysis of the Lago Seco infill drilling program to achieve a twofold purpose: first, to demonstrate a systematic method for assessing drilling performance of a multi-well drilling program and second, to make recommendations to improve future drilling performance at Lago Seco. Although the recommendations will apply specifically to Lago Seco, the methods presented herein may be applied to any field.
