Sumon Kumar Saha's report A Non-Linear Leak-Off Model for Fracture Mechanics

by
Sumon Kumar Saha, MSE

University of Texas at Austin, 1999
Supervisor: Dr. K. E. Gray

Fluid leak-off is an important aspect in drilling and fracture operations. Most of the leak-off models consider that the fluid distribution in the near wellbore region can be broken into three zones namely filter cake, filtrate zone and reservoir zone. The report involves a novel model for pressure profile in the invaded zone, which accounts for the compressibility of the formation fluid and comparison with various fluid leak-off models. The model extends diffusivity equation with constant wellbore pressure and constant pressure in the flushed zone.

A Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been written to simulate this model and to compare this model to the one that is well-established in hydraulic fracturing.
