About

Olson John

Welcome to the nation’s top petroleum engineering program. The professionals in the oil and gas industry are dedicated to providing sustainable energy that powers a modern society. Petroleum is a precious resource that should be produced and consumed with caution and in an environmentally friendly manner. Our department is committed to educating the next generation of petroleum engineering leaders who will improve all citizens’ quality of life.

UT PGE is home to the No. 1 undergraduate and graduate petroleum engineering programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Our tradition of excellence stems from our robust curriculum, world-class faculty and an unmatched research program.

For almost 90 years, we have focused on hiring the world’s brightest academic minds and recruiting top-tier students who go on to change the oil and gas industry through their leadership. Our curriculum and research is constantly evolving to meet society’s biggest energy challenges. We believe the best student is a well-rounded student, so we offer hands-on petroleum engineering opportunities, a study abroad program, and a mentorship initiative for first-year students.

Our students are taught by a renowned group of faculty, including three members of the National Academy of Engineering and 13 distinguished members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. In addition, we spend $9.2 million conducting innovative research each year.

Thank you for your interest in learning more about our dynamic department at this prestigious academic institution. We hope you will join UT PGE to become a lifelong Longhorn!
