Matthew Isbell, Senior Drilling Engineering Advisor at Hess Corporation

Title:
Improving Well Construction Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in the Bakken Shale

Abstract:
Well construction is a part of the value stream for safely delivering petroleum to markets where it will be transformed into other products useful to society. Requirements for well construction continue to change and are driven by internal and external factors and stakeholders to provide greater safety, quality and overall efficiency. This discussion will focus on a fast-moving, Bakken Shale development drilling program where technology and workflows supported improved standard well design delivery and allowed a new well design to be effectively implemented, which promises more future potential. Drilling process automation and data-driven systems will be explained and shown how they come into play addressing drilling limiters and enabling changes in workflows like real-time remote operations for directional drilling and geo-steering.
