Graduate Seminar Speaker: Dr. Chung Lee, CEO, U-Solution LLC

Monday, October 7, 2013
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Location: CPE 2.204

Dr. Chung Lee, CEO of U-Solution LLC will present a lecture entitled "Introduction to Fiber Optic DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensor)" as part of the Claude R. Hocott Graduate Seminar Series.

Abstract: The DTS technology based on Fiber Optic and Laser technologies measures several thousands temperature points simultaneously in a short time period. This unprecedented and powerful system has been applied successfully to various industries as well as to Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream and downstream) areas. The DTS system can monitor the temperature profile of entire down hole depths of 10km with 1m resolution by deploying a single line of optical fiber cable. Temperature surveillances for leak detection of long range pipeline infrastructures and abnormal hot point detection in oil refinery facilities is based on the same principle. The DTS technology provides three major benefits to O&G end users; 1) Production optimization and 2) Operating cost saving and 3) Facility protection.

The seminar will cover:
–Optical fiber basics
–Fiber optic sensor and advantages
–DTS Working principle
–Operation
–Practical Issues and solutions
–DTS Specification
–Applications (General and Oil & Gas)
