Ph.D. Petroleum Engineering
The University of Texas at Austin

Dr. Paul Bommer has joined us in 2004 to teach the undergraduate production course. Paul received his Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in 1979 and joined Bommer Engineering soon thereafter. He has extensive experience in reservoir evaluation and enhanced recovery design backed by years of drilling and production practice. His experience with Bommer Engineering includes the following:

  • The evaluation and appraisal of hundreds of oil and gas producing properties throughout the domestic United States.  These appraisals have been performed for a variety of purposes including loan collateralization, estate and gift tax reporting, litigation support, and SEC filings.
  • Expert witness experience with appearances before state and federal district courts and the Railroad Commission of Texas.
  • Involvement in the management of the drilling, completion, and production of dozens of wells in various Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain and Mid-Continent regions.
  • Responsibility for general company business management.

Paul has published articles in several fields including solution mining, beam pump design, and well log analysis.  He has served as an instructor in petroleum related courses at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston at Victoria, and at Bee County Community College.  He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute, Pi Epsilon Tau, Phi Kappa Phi, and Tau Beta Pi. Working with the Faculty Innovation Center, he recently developed an animation of a drilling rig for the benefit of his drilling students.
