Assistant Professor
Ph.D., Petroleum Engineering
Delft University of Technology
Dr. Quoc Nguyen has joined the University of Texas at Austin in 2005 as Assistant Professor at the Department of Petroleum
& Geosystems Engineering. He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering, MBA in industrial management, MSc in Environmental
Sciences, and PhD in Petroleum Engineering. Recently, his research work has been at the interface between colloid and
interfacial science and the engineering of complex fluids, subsurface transport phenomena, and process optimum control.
In previous research in the downstream petroleum industry, he led several projects on oil refining (distillation and
extraction) and petrochemical (cracking and reforming) processes. In the environmental area, he was involved in numerous
industrial research projects on hazardous waste treatments and the development of clean production technologies.
His current research interests include:
-
Stimulated hydrocarbon production
- Fractured formation acidizing
- Complex fluids for near well-bore treatments
- Intelligent wells
- Downhole measurements and system identification
- Dynamic optimum control
- Enhanced oil recovery
- Alkaline-surfactant flooding
- Conformance control with foam and polymer
- Wettability and surface energy
- Heavy oil recovery
- Thermal and chemical approaches for tar sands and shale-oil recovery
