Oxy CEO to Meet with UT PGE Students

Oxy President and CEO Vicki Hollub — the first female CEO of an American energy company — will meet with Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering students when she visits campus March 4. Hollub will talk with students about the role of the oil and gas industry in a sustainable energy future.

Oxy President and CEO Vicki Hollub

Hollub has been a member of Oxy’s Board of Directors since 2015. During her 35-year career with Oxy, she has held a variety of management and technical positions with responsibilities on three continents, including roles in the United States, Russia, Venezuela and Ecuador. Most recently, she served as Oxy’s President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the company’s oil and gas, chemical and midstream operations. She serves on the boards of Lockheed Martin and the American Petroleum Institute, and is chair of the World Economic Forum’s Oil and Gas Community and a member of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative.

UT PGE Professor Carlos Torres-Verdín, UT Energy Institute Fellow Dana Harmon, and UT PGE Alumna in Residence Karen Hagedorn will moderate the discussion, which will take place in the Gary L. Thomas Energy Engineering Building (GLT 5.104) from 2 to 3 p.m.

About the Moderators

Dr. Carlos Torres-Verdín
Professor Carlos Torres-Verdín currently holds the Brian James Jennings Memorial Endowed Chair in Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering andProfessor Carlos Torres-Verdin the Zarrow Centennial Professorship in Petroleum Engineering, at UT Austin’s Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. He is the founder and program director of the Formation Evaluation Joint Industry Research Consortium. He has published more than 202 articles in refereed technical journals, over 235 articles in international conferences, and two book chapters, and is co-author of five US patents.

Dana Harmon
Dana Harmon is the owner and principal of Juniper Advisory Group, a consultancy helping advance aUT Energy Institute Fellow Dana Harmon sustainable and equitable energy future. Former executive director of the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute, she now advises NGOs, corporate partners and local governments working on society’s most complex energy, environmental and social challenges. She is a research advisory board member of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), an American Fellow of the German Marshall Fund, and a UT Austin Energy Institute Fellow.

Dr. Karen Hagedorn (BSPE 1986)
Karen Hagedorn is Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Alumna in Residence. UT PGE Alumna in Residence Karen HagedornShe spent nearly 30 years with ExxonMobil working in reservoir engineering, enhanced oil recovery, asset development, research and field testing, and business analysis. She is a recipient of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Young Member Outstanding Service Award and the Alaska Section Engineer of the Year Award, and SPE named her a Distinguished Member in 2014. She is a founding member of the UT Austin Women in Engineering Program Advisory Committee.
