Each semester, D&A asks students to nominate specific faculty or staff members who have demonstrated excellence in facilitating an equitable campus environment. The student who nominated DiCarlo cited the positive impact of his humor on the classroom experience: “He brings a smile and laughter with him everywhere he goes.”

“The D&A Accessibility Champion awards provide an opportunity for students to acknowledge professors and staff members who have positively impacted their semester,” says D&A Outreach and Education Coordinator Naomi Hege. “Through these awards, we hope to recognize UT Austin employees for their commitment to fostering an accessible, inclusive and welcoming campus for students with disabilities.”

DiCarlo is the fourth current UT PGE faculty member to receive the award. Professor Jon E. Olson (Spring 2021), Senior Lecturer Deborah Hempel-Medina (Spring 2016) and Professor Maša Prodanović (Spring 2013) have also been recognized.

DiCarlo holds the George H. Fancher Centennial Teaching Fellowship in Petroleum Engineering. His research is focused on applying advanced experimental techniques to understanding fluid flow in hydrocarbon reservoirs. He teaches Advanced Thermodynamics, Thermodynamics and Phase Behavior, Transport Phenomena in Geosystems, and Advanced Multi-Phase Flow in Porous Media.
